BPC-157: The Body Protection Compound
What BPC-157 is
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide, a chain of 15 amino acids. Its sequence is derived from a larger protective protein found in gastric juice. Unusually for a peptide, it is reported to be stable in gastric acid, which is part of why it appears so often in research models.
What the research looks at
In published preclinical work, largely rodent models, BPC-157 is studied for:
- Tendon, ligament, and muscle repair after induced injury
- Angiogenesis (new blood-vessel formation), often discussed via the VEGFR2 pathway
- Gastrointestinal protection
- Nitric oxide system interactions
An honest read of the evidence
The large majority of BPC-157 data is animal-model and in-vitro research. Robust, large-scale human clinical data is limited, and it is not an approved drug. Treat it as what it is: a research compound with an interesting preclinical signal that is still being characterized. For laboratory research use only. Not for human consumption.
